PNG and JPG are the two most common image formats, but they serve different purposes. Sometimes you need to convert between them — to reduce file size, meet upload requirements, or improve compatibility. Here's how to do it instantly, for free, in your browser.

PNG vs JPG — what's the difference?

Step-by-step guide

1. Open the Image Converter

Go to netool.online/tools/image-converter. The tool runs entirely in your browser.

2. Upload your PNG file

Drag your PNG onto the upload zone, or click to browse and select it from your device.

3. Select JPG as the output format

Choose JPG from the format dropdown. You can also adjust the quality level — 80–90% gives an excellent result for most images.

4. Download the converted file

Click Convert & Download to save the JPG to your device. The conversion is instant.

What happens to transparent areas?

PNG supports transparency, but JPG does not. When converting a PNG with a transparent background to JPG, transparent areas are filled with white by default. If you want a different background color, use an image editor to fill the background before converting.

How much smaller will the JPG be?

It depends on the image, but JPG is typically 60–80% smaller than an equivalent PNG for photographs:

| Format | File Size | |--------|-----------| | Original PNG | 2.4 MB | | Converted JPG (90%) | 680 KB | | Converted JPG (75%) | 320 KB |

Privacy — no upload, no server

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never sent to any server. This is especially important for sensitive or personal photos.
